What does this indicator measure?

This measure represents the percent of adults 18 and older who responded "within the past year" to the following question: "How long has it been since you last visited a dentist or a dental clinic for any reason?"

Why is this indicator important?

Oral diseases ranging from dental caries (cavities) to oral cancers cause pain and disability for millions of Americans. Poor oral health, particularly periodontal (gum) disease, has been linked to several chronic diseases, including diabetes, heart disease, and stroke.
