What does this indicator measure?

This measure represents the number of deaths from cancer per 100,000 population and is age-adjusted to the 2000 U.S. population (Note: the cancer was not necessarily diagnosed in the same year). Mortality data reflect the underlying cause of death as recorded on the death certificate.

Why is this indicator important?

Cancer is the second leading cause of death in Indiana following heart disease.
