What does this indicator measure?

This measure is based on the percent of adults 18 and older who responded "never," "rarely," or "sometimes" to the following question: “How often do you get the social and emotional support you need?”

Why is this indicator important?

Inadequate social support is associated with increased morbidity and early mortality. People with strong social networks (e.g., community involvement, strong family support) are more likely to participate in healthy lifestyle choices.
